I'm Tora, founder of WeaveYourWay, and I've helped many beginners get started with frame loom weaving. Here are the five things you actually need: nothing more, nothing less.

For a first project on a loom you will need: loom, weaving needle, warp, yarn and a hanging dowel.

1. Something to weave on – a loom or frame loom

   It might sound obvious, but the type of loom you use depends on your project. A floor loom is suitable for large projects like tablecloths or rugs, but it requires a lot of space. If you want to start simple, a frame loom is the obvious choice: flexible, portable and easy to use even for children. 2. A weaving needle – for smoother weaving

   While it’s possible to weave using just your hands, a weaving needle makes the process much easier. It helps you guide the yarn through the warp more precisely and comfortably. 3. Warp – the foundation of your weave

   The warp is the set of vertical threads that hold your weaving together. A good warp yarn should be strong and durable. Cotton is the most common choice for beginners because it is strong, non-stretchy, and easy to work with. Linen also works great but is slightly stiffer. Avoid elastic yarns as warp threads, because they make the weave uneven.

   
   

4. Yarn or other materials – let creativity lead the way

   This is where you can really experiment! Use classic yarn, fabric strips from old sheets, or even second-hand finds. You can also upcycle materials like plastic bags for something truly unique. 5. Dowels – to display your work
